St Charles College Trust

The St Charles College Investment Trust

Our St Charles College Trust is all about the future. We are focused on making sure we are able to survive the pandemics and storms of the future, and to fund the innovation and support that families who choose an education at St Charles College need.

All donations received will be invested to grow the trust to its target of R50 million and dividends thereafter will be dispersed to the College for two purposes:

1. Bursaries and Scholarships

IN JULY 1875 CHARLES JOLIVET started a small school for boys in Pietermaritzburg which he named St Charles Grammar School. His compassion and vision to provide excellence in education to boys from Pietermaritzburg, and beyond, has developed over nearly a century and a half of hard work – into the St Charles College we know today.

After 149 years, St Charles College stands as Pietermaritzburg’s oldest independent school, upholding a legacy of excellence. In collaboration with our dedicated partners, we provide select boys with opportunities to transform their talents into success through hard work – a commitment to make a positive impact on their families, communities, and South Africa.

THE JOLIVET LEGACY AWARD is a bursary / scholarship which is offered to make it possible for boys who ordinarily would not have access to a rigorous Independent School Education, to attend St Charles College.

The Jolivet Legacy Award goes further through co-operation with Varsity College (PMB Campus), sporting personalities and local businesses to assist successful candidates in obtaining a tertiary qualification or opportunities to gain experience in the world of work.

Engage in the Jolivet Legacy Project, where your contributions empower students to receive education from leaders in their respective fields. Your support becomes a catalyst for positive change, making a tangible difference in the world.

2. Capital Development

The allocated capital expenditure priority queue has three projects in the pipeline:

  • Boarding Establishment extensions
  • Performance venue for our Senior, Junior and Pre- Primary schools
  • Junction for Senior, Junior and Pre- Primary schools’ staff

The following capital expenditure projects will happen when funding becomes available:

  • Flood-lights for Old Orchards
  • Scoreboard for Old Orchards
  • Scoreboard for Hockey
  • Chapel mezanines
  • Hockey bank seating
  • Rugby bank seating
  • New music centre

Other ways to get involved

MY SCHOOL CARD

The number one challenge for our 150th

If I were to be asked what one thing would make the most impact to the future security of the College, it would be energy independence. It’s the one thing that affects every single boy and family at the College, both now and in future. If you have an interest in future-proofing the College please consider this cause as the collective investment we need to make over the next 8 months.

If you ask, ‘How much will one installed solar panel (with accompanying optimal battery storage and controller system) cost?’ that is a good question, and it is being modelled currently. But, for the super enthusiasts, to start immediately, all income received from your My School cards and similar loyalty cards will be directed to purchasing solar panels. This small continuous difference that your shopping makes is a powerful collective force when we target something as important as energy independence.

Who knew that shopping could be one of the most responsible ways that you can make a direct difference to the future resilience of the College?

Swipe your MySchool, My Village, My Planet or linked Woolworths card at any of the partner stores to help grow swipes and support St Charles College.

Did you know that MySchool cards are also available from our reception desk at St Charles College?

PEOPLE BELIEVE IN ST CHARLES COLLEGE BECAUSE WE REMAIN RESOLUTE IN ADVANCING EXCELLENT AND INDEPENDENT THINKING. AFTER ALMOST ONE AND A HALF CENTURIES OF FIGHTING THE ODDS, WE CAN TESTIFY TO WHAT HARD WORK AND FAITH CAN ACHIEVE.
