Weather Station

In collaboration with the Disciplines of Geography and Agrometeorology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the weather conditions are monitored by a fully automated weather station located at St Charles College. This station streams weather data every 5 min to a website that can be accessed by all students and staff at St Charles College and the general public.

The facility is used as a teaching aid, particularly in Geography, and provides detailed information on weather over the previous 24 hours. It includes heat index warnings (see below) so that informed decisions can be made regarding sport on dangerously hot days in summer. Information is provided on how the measurements are determined and the relevance of the different variables monitored. – Professor Trevor Hill
